sunny
The sky is clear and the sun is shining.
On sunny days, we like to go to the park.
cloudy
There are many clouds in the sky, which may make the day seem grey or dark.
It was very cloudy, so we couldn’t see the sun.
rainy
There are regular periods of rain, making everything wet.
It was a rainy day, so we decided to stay indoors.
snowy
Snow is falling from the sky.
On snowy days like this, we like to play in the snow.
windy
There is a lot of wind, which may blow things away.
It was so windy in the park that my papers blew away.
degrees
The unit used to measure temperature (°C in the UK, °F in the US).
They are expecting the temperature to go up to 30 degrees tomorrow.
hot
The temperature is high and uncomfortable.
It was too hot at the beach, so we decided to go home.
warm
Pleasantly hot, but not uncomfortable.
On warm days like this, we like to spend time outdoors.
cold
The air temperature is very low (e.g., 0–10°C).
It was a cold day, so I was wearing a hat and gloves.
freezing
Extremely cold—often below 0°C; can also describe anything very cold.
It’s absolutely freezing out here! I need to go inside.
humid
The air contains a lot of water vapour and feels sticky, especially when hot.
The humid weather made walking long distances uncomfortable.
wet
There is water on the ground because it is raining or has recently rained.
It had rained and everything was very wet.
dry
No rain; the opposite of wet.
It hasn’t rained in a long time and the ground is very dry.
lightning
A bright flash of electricity in the sky during a storm.
The lightning lit up the whole sky during the storm.
thunder
The loud noise caused by lightning during a storm.
Every time there was thunder, the dog hid under the bed.
thunderstorm
A heavy rainstorm accompanied by thunder and lightning.
There was a thunderstorm last night with lots of heavy rain and lightning.
snowstorm
A storm with heavy snowfall.
We are expecting a snowstorm this evening.
shower
A short period of light rain.
We are expecting showers this morning, so I am going to stay indoors.
drizzle
Very light rain falling continuously; won’t make you very wet.
There was a bit of drizzle when I walked to work this morning.
hail
Small balls of ice that fall like rain during a storm.
We were surprised to see balls of hail on the roof of our car.
