Can / Can’t – Form

✅ Use: can + base verb (without 'to')

• I can swim.
• She can drive a car.
• We can help you.

❌ Never: can + to + verb

• I can to swim. ❌ (Incorrect)

✅ No -s for he/she/it

The verb can does NOT change for third person singular.

• He can swim.
• She can play the piano.
• It can wait.

❌ Never: cans

• He cans swim. ❌ (Incorrect)

✅ Questions: Start with Can

Can comes before the subject in questions.

• Can you help me?
• Can she come tomorrow?
• Can they see us?

❌ Never: Do/Does + can

• Do you can swim? ❌ (Incorrect)

✅ Negative: can’t (cannot)

• I can’t come.
• He can’t speak French.
• We can’t go now.

❌ Never: don’t can / doesn’t can

• I don’t can come. ❌ (Incorrect)

Use can to talk about skills or things someone knows how to do.

Use can to ask for or give permission, or to say if something is possible.

• You can’t park here.
• It can get very cold in winter.
• I can’t come to the party.

Use: Requests

Use can to make requests or place orders.

• Can we get the bill?
